SMALL QUESTIONS. BIG PERSPECTIVE.
The Legacy Jar
The Legacy Jar is a simple tool for conversations that actually go somewhere, for teams, couples, families, and friends. One question at a time. No pressure. No small talk that stays small.
Buy NowReal conversation is harder than it should be.
You know the feeling. You're at dinner, in a meeting, on a road trip with people you care about, and somehow the conversation never leaves the surface.
That's because real conversation comes with quiet pressure:
- What do we even talk about?
- What if someone asks me something uncomfortable?
- What if I mess up my answer, or say the wrong thing?
- What if I'm judged for what I share?
- Why does it feel like I have to perform for whoever's asking?
Most of us don't avoid deeper conversation because we don't want it. We avoid it because asking feels risky, and so does answering.
Why This Matters
The conversations we avoid are often what keep us stuck.
The topic we skip over. The question we don't ask. The thing we're afraid to address. It doesn't just disappear, it sits there. And over time, it keeps teams stuck. It keeps families stuck. It keeps us stuck with ourselves.
Opening up is a skill, and like any skill, it takes practice. Most people don't lack the desire to have real conversations. They lack a starting point, a low-stakes way to build the habit of addressing what actually matters.
The Legacy Jar is that starting point.
This shows up clearly in team meetings. When a meeting opens with a small, honest answer instead of a status update, it sets the tone for the whole conversation. People arrive a little more open, a little more human, and that openness tends to carry through the rest of the agenda.

Buy NowLet the Jar Ask the Question, Not You
The Legacy Jar removes the person from the equation. Nobody has to come up with a question on the spot. Nobody has to decide who gets asked what. Nobody feels singled out.
You just reach in, pull a question, and answer it. That one shift changes everything:
- No pressure to ask. The jar does it for you, so no one feels like they're prying, or being put on the spot by a specific person.
- No pressure to perform. Every question is light enough to answer honestly in a minute or two.
- Genuine surprise. You'll draw questions you'd never have thought to ask yourself, and learn something new about the people around you (including yourself).
- Real connection, fast. Starting light opens the door to conversations that end up meaningful. Trust builds faster than you'd expect.
WHY THE QUESTIONS WORK
Not All Questions Are Created Equal.
Before The Legacy Jar, I spent years working as a family therapist. In that time, I learned that some questions have the power to open people up in meaningful ways, while others quietly close people off.
The best questions share two qualities: they're open ended, and they're non leading. Every question in The Legacy Jar is built on that same principle.
- Pull a question. Reach into the jar and draw one at random.
- Answer honestly. Take 1 to 2 minutes to share your answer, out loud.
- Pass it on. The next person draws, and the conversation keeps moving.
That's it. No rules to memorize, no moderator required, no wrong answers.
Open ended and non leading. Here's why it matters.
Great questions come from genuine curiosity, not from an attempt to steer someone toward a certain answer. Open ended questions invite a real, thoughtful response instead of a simple yes or no. Non leading questions let people share their own perspective freely, without being nudged in a particular direction.
If you're asking your own questions outside the jar, a few things help:
- Start with words like "what" or "how" rather than questions that box someone into a yes or no.
- Follow up with prompts like "tell me more" or "can you give me an example?"
- Ask because you genuinely want to understand their perspective, not to fix, change, or convince them.
- Remember that how you ask matters as much as what you ask. A calm tone, open body language, and patience go a long way toward helping someone feel safe enough to share.
